- Authors
MURRAY, MOLLY
- Abstract
The author considers the 1536-1537 poems written by Lady Margaret Douglas and Sir Thomas Howard contained within the Devonshire Manuscript held in the collection of the British Library. The two members of British King Henry VIII's court were placed in the prison at the Tower of London, England when the King discovered the two had secretly married against his wishes. The couple joined Henry's wife Queen Anne Boleyn and other members of the court imprisoned for a variety of treasonous charges. Other topics considered include literature and history, influences on Tudor poetry, and a textual analysis of the poems.
