- Title
The Cold War State and the Resurgence of Evangelicalism: A Study of the Public Funding of Religion Since 1.
- Authors
Schäfer, Axel R.
- Abstract
The article provides a historical perspective concerning the link between the U.S. government and the Christian Right. Despite the denunciation of the liberal state on the part of the Christian Right, post-war state formation and the resurgence of evangelicalism facilitated increasing cooperation and mutually reinforced each other. The author argues that since the end of World War II, the strong fiscal and ideological link between government and evangelical Protestants became a constitutive element of the rise of the Cold War state.
