- Abstract
This article focuses on the presence of Ovid's story of Pygmalion in films. It cites that the tale of Ovid depicts a man's illicit obsession with the surface beauty of an image of femininity. It also discusses some films which present an image of Pygmalion, who uses his artistry to carve a perfect woman out of ivory, including "Vertigo," "Pretty Woman," "My Fair Lady" and "Educating Rita." Moreover, it looks into films about Ovid's tale that depict female androids, robots, automatons, and cyborgs such as "Pygmalion and Galatea," "The Modern Pygmalion and Galatea" and "Metropolis."
