- Authors
Lapisardi, Emily
- Abstract
The article offers information on the sericulture and silk manufacture practiced by the Harmony Society between 1826 and the 1850s. The quality of workmanship was impeccable and the pictorial designs were key icons of the society's beliefs which held mystical and allegorical significance. Although production stopped in the 1850s, the Harmonists silks remain an outstanding accomplishment in the history of domestic silk manufacture. The article also discusses about Gertrude Rapp.
