- Abstract
The article discusses research published in the issue of the "American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology" which examined the impact of changes in surveillance practices on maternal mortality rate in the U.S. The study quantified rates and temporal trends in maternal and pregnancy-associated deaths. It classified deaths based on categories set by the National Center for Health Statistics that included direct and indirect obstetrical deaths, late maternal deaths and pregnancy-related deaths.
