- Abstract
Keloid scars have always represented a therapeutic challenge for the dermatologist. There is a wide variety of therapies with variable outcomes. One of these options that have been used since early 20th century is radiotherapy, although the type of radiation and optimal dose could vary even to doses that we could nowadays consider inappropriate or excessive. It is well established the potential carcinogenetic risk of radiation, but there is just one case of basal cell carcinoma published in the literature directly associated with the use of radiotherapy for keloid scar. We report the case of a 58 year-old female that received 5 sessions of radiotherapy to prevent keloid scars 37 years ago and recently noticed 3 lesions above C-section scar compatible with basal cell carcinoma.
