- Abstract
The article discusses the administration of exogenous oxytocin to prevent postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) during the third stage of labor. It is said that administering oxytocin in the third stage increases the risk of placental retention. Topics covered include the active and expectant management methods, the benefits of active management, and the evidence showing a lack of significant differences in outcome. Recommendations for further studies on PPH and oxytocins are also mentioned.
