- Title
REMEMBERING SMOKE SIGNALS: INTERVIEWS WITH CHRIS EYRE AND SHERMAN ALEXIE.
- Authors
HEARNE, JOANNA
- Abstract
An interview with film director Chris Eyre and writer Sherman Alexie is presented. Chris notes how he was struck by the Indianness of Sherman's short story "This is What it Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona," which made him ask Sherman to write a screenplay which was then titled "Smoke Signals." Chris explained that actor Adam Beech wore a wig because of an unspoken rule with Native American actors that they cannot be asked to cut their hair. Chris expresses his fear that "Smoke Signals" will be the movie that he will be best known for.
