- Title
On the Brink: Identity and Language in the Poetry of Arab-American Women.
- Authors
SAFI, LUBNA
- Abstract
The article provides an overview of the works of three Arab-American women writers in the context of relationship to language embodied by a particular practice of translation. It explores the text of Jacques Derrida which poses the question of translatability, both as a mode and means of understanding the identity's integral problem and in language. The question to possess a language is the main metaphor in the poems by Suheir Hamad, Dima Hilal and Naomi Shehad Nye.
