- Abstract
The article discusses the avant-garde literature in Austria from 1880 to 1980. Austrian author Ferdinand von Saar is one of the significant figures in Austrian literature in the eighteen-eighties. It is noted that although the art of his short novels bespeaks the tradition of poetic realism, it also introduces the means for an advance into new territory. The decline of the power of Naturalism was already evident at the start of the 1890s. It is concluded that one can point out the impact of avant-garde to author Hermann Bahr.
