- Title
The House on Brown Street.
- Authors
Lacy, Robert
- Abstract
This article presents a description of the house on Brown Street of Van Buren County, Iowa, in which the author's friend lived several years ago. There's a new red roof now, an odd touch, replacing the old black one. The house has same white frame exterior, with same L-shaped porch wrapping around two sides, same oversized downstairs windows and steeply terraced lawn. Back in the mid-1960s, the Brown Street house had been home to the author's old Iowa Writers' Workshop classmate Andre Dubus, his wife, Pat, and their four kids. The Brown Street house was in a closely built residential neighborhood only blocks from the university campus, only blocks from downtown in that smallish midwestern city.
