- Abstract
The article offers information on a study which investigates the metabolism of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) in circulating blood cell populations. It aims to elucidate the regulatory mechanism of elevation of plasma ADMA, a novel risk factor for cardiovascular disease. It reports that protein arginine methyltransferase (PRMT)-l and dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase (DDAH)-l are responsible for the biosynthesis and degradation of ADMA and are expressed in erythrocytes.
