- Abstract
The author reflects on the oil spill happened in the Gulf of Mexico which was viewed to make the reliability engineering profession to be one of the reasons for the disaster. He says that the oil industry had been criticizing the reliability engineering such as the oil spill, due to its models for actual field events. Meanwhile, he discusses several ways to manage the critics of the reliability engineering which include structural uncertainty, parametric uncertainty, and marginal uncertainty.
