- Abstract
The article presents information on the 2005 Annual Conference of the Human Resource Planning Society (HRPS). At the conference, the HRPS Board of Directors, HRPS Corporate Sponsors, and the periodical "Human Resource Planning" Editorial Board met to reflect on new directions in the field of human resource management. As in past years, roundtable participants had the opportunity to focus not only on business issues but also on those of a more personal nature. The discussion focused on the organization as a system, a collection of goals, processes, and people. The relationship of the organization to the individual and the relationship of individual to individual in the organization are of mounting importance if the organization is to succeed. Talent management is where HR can make the greatest contribution. It is strategy-related, has the attention of management, and is recognized as an HR responsibility. CEOs want HR to help acquire and develop the talent to implement strategy. At the other of the employment chain, retention remains a critical issue.
