- Title
Structure of the Air Flow in the Cylinder of Engines with Inlet Pipelines of Various Configurations.

- Abstract
Results are presented of an experimental investigation into the structure of a steady-state air flow in a cylinder of reciprocating internal combustion engines with intake systems of various designs when it is filled through a poppet valve on the basis of the method of thermal visualization imaging. It has been established that cross profiling of cylinder inlet pipes has a substantial effect on the structure of the flow in it. It is shown that the use of square and triangular pipes makes it possible to obtain a more uniform flow distribution through the cylinder volume compared to pipes of other configurations, which ensures a more complete combustion of the fuel–air mixture and, accordingly, an improvement of technical-economic and environmental performance of a piston engine.
