- Abstract
The Brazilian Cultural Heritage, made up of goods of a material and immaterial nature, has been dilapidated for centuries by greed, embezzlement and theft of goods perpetrated against what should be a public good. The responsibility to protect, promote and preserve the Brazilian Cultural Heritage is imposed by the Federal Constitution on the Public Ministry, the Public Power and the society. The laws have been updated, including new recommendations intended to offer a useful instrument for those involved in actions in order to protect the cultural assets. Regarding to the normative system for the protection of Brazilian cultural heritage, there is a quadripartite division: the prohibition of illegal acquisition, importation, exportation and transfers; international standardization incorporated into the Brazilian laws; international agreements; and, the Brazilian legislation. The combat against these different factors is necessary and urgent, aiming the aggressions to the patrimony could cease, and the society could enjoy these assets.
