- Abstract
Chepaizi area of the Junggar Basin is the main prospecting target for leachable sandstone- uranium deposits in recent years. However, the drilling construction in the Chepaizi exploration area in recent years encountered some problem due to widely distributed water-sensitive and unstable strata such as mud shale and loose sandy conglomerate, which often cause the hydration expansion of the rock formation, shrinkage of the borehole diameter, and collapse of the borehole wall during the drilling construction. And the traditional finely dispersed drilling fluids fails to solve the problems encountered in actual drilling operations in the Chepaizi exploration and result in low drilling efficiency such as low core recovery rate, poor geological effect, repeated footage, etc. To overcome the problems existing in the actual drilling operation in Chepaizi exploration area, this paper studied and optimized a set of new low-solid non-dispersible drilling fluid configuration and maintenance technology through extensive review of relevant literature and a large number of field experiments. The new drilling fluid adopts broad-spectrum wall protection agent and sulfonated asphalt powder as the core materials, and has the characteristics of simple configuration and maintenance, good fluidity, low water loss, and forming thin and tough mud cake. In 2022, the new drilling fluid was actually used to carry out the construction test of wireline coring drilling combined with the electric direct drive drilling rig in the Chepaizi exploration area, and achieved safety, high quality and high efficiency outcome finally in the test drilling, which provide reference and guidance for future drilling in similar area
