The article discusses translations of satirist Lucian by Dutch philosopher Desiderius Erasmus and Saint Thomas More. Topics discussed include the painting of Erasmus reinforces his identity as a scholar of both the Christian and classical traditions, Erasmus's and More's translations of selected works of Lucian into Latin stand on the cusp of these shifts in Lucian's reception, and subsequent Latin translation of the New Testament.
