- Abstract
The article discusses the results of a study on the role of retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP-4), visceral fat and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in weight loss after bariatric surgery. The body mass index (BMI), visceral-fat diameter (VFD) and RBP-4 serum levels of 36 subjects have decreased after the surgery. The decline of RBP-4 serum levels by 16.6% were associated with reductions of waist, waist-to-hip ratio and VFD. MetS was present in 19 patients at baseline and in 9 patients at follow-up.
