- Abstract
This article is an editorial comment on the long-term kidney function of Japanese living kidney donors. It highlights the importance of kidney transplantation as a treatment for end-stage renal disease and the reliance on living donors in Japan. The safety of living kidney donation is a concern, but a study mentioned in the article found that kidney donors did not have a higher long-term risk of death and that deteriorated renal function after donation did not impact their survival. The article emphasizes the need for accurate follow-up and assessment of renal function in living kidney donors to identify those at risk of chronic kidney disease.
