- Abstract
The article focuses on the ruling of the Supreme Court of Canada in the case British Columbia Teachers' Federation v. British Columbia Public School Employers' Association. It cites the failure of the employer to provide separate maternity leave and parental leave supplementary employment benefits (SEB) to birth mothers which amounted to discrimination. The Supreme Court also noted the failure of the court of appeal to recognize the differing purposes of Employment Insurance (EI) Act.
