- Abstract
This study sought to understand how mindfulness meditation promotes the autonomy of nurses in Primary Health Care, according to Paulo Freire's theory. A qualitative, participatory research was developed, carried out with 16 nurses, through open in-depth interviews, between September and December 2020 and through a thematic content analysis. As a result, it was found that the professional autonomy of nurses in Primary Health Care is in a process of evolution and consolidation. Training, the search for knowledge, nursing protocols, and experiences add strength to nurture their role. There was a reflection on the operationalization of meditation at work, which is possible to introduce in the nurse's care prescriptions, both individually and collectively. It was concluded that nurses' autonomy is achieved through different fronts of action and meditation constitutes a path with potential for promoting professional autonomy and comprehensive care.
