- Title
THE LOGOTHEOLOGY OF THERESE OF LISIEUX: 'AWAY THAT IS VERY STRAIGHT, VERY SHORT, AND TOTALLY NEW'.
- Authors
Ranft, Patricia
- Abstract
Long before Viktor Frankl introduced his logotherapy to modern psychology, Therese of Lisieux constructed a theology of meaning. Until now it has gone unnoticed. It is the goal of this article to identify those elements in Therese's writing that comprise her logotheology. By presenting her thought within Frankl's paradigm the sophistication of her theology and the reasons for its attraction to the masses become more apparent. Her 'LittleWay' is constructed on a belief in the meaningfulness of the hidden life, the uniqueness of the individual, and the power of the will to transcend self and encounter the other in love.
