- Authors
Smith, Brenda
- Abstract
This article describes foster care from a feminist perspective and explores the benefits of working together by biological and foster mothers in Sydney, New South Wales. Foster care mothers reported high levels of job satisfaction as they believe that their work is useful to the community. They also provided several reasons to support better pay for the job. Biological mothers think a children's problems are entirely the mother's responsibility. All the mothers had a certain amount of shame to overcome as their concept of themselves as mothers was central to their self-esteem.
