- Abstract
The process of creating discourse markers entails a series of changes involving the conversion of particular lexical or syntagmatical units into grammatical elements which assume different discursive functions. From this point of view, our study focuses on the evolution of the discursive reconceptualization markers (en todas maneras, de todas maneras, de todas suertes, de todos modos, de todas formas, en cualquier caso, en todo caso) which make up a set of forms having diverse origins, with grammaticalization processes carried out with different rhythms and distinct results and with very different features in their structure, their layout and combination possibilities. The diachronic analysis of these units allows us to explain two outstanding phenomena: a) to account for the transformation process through which free syntagma, with a well-defined function in the sentence structure and a compositional meaning, become fixed forms, without any specific function within the sentence framework, thus weakening the etymological referential meaning while reinforcing the pragmatic meaning; and b) to establish how these units emerge and develop to become discursive markers. This analysis leads to an understanding of the configuration of the mechanisms of textual organization, of the structure of the information and the procedures of discursive cohesion within their historical development.
