- Authors
ROBERTSON, DWANNA L.
- Abstract
The article discusses racism against Indigenous Peoples in the U.S. It is suggested that while mainstream race theory is concerned with covert, or color-blind racism, Native peoples face overt racism which has been normalized and legitimized in U.S. culture. Particular focus is given to stereotypes and cultural appropriation. Topics discussed include sports team mascots, alcoholism, sexualized depictions of Native women, and the celebration of Columbus Day.
