- Abstract
The article presents a commentary on Robert Phillipson's paper "Lingua franca or lingua frankensteinia? English in European Integration and Globalisation." According to the author, she is skeptical with regard to Phillipson's critique of the English language. She points out that it has no ability to things by itself, nor does it bears the responsibility for its state of being. The origin of discourses which promote the use of English as a global commodity can be traced to globalization, the author said. She also emphasizes the importance of understanding the counter-discourses that are connected also with discourses of multi- or plurilingualism and linguistic diversity.
