- Abstract
In this qualitative study of 16 two-parent, dual-earner households, mothers and fathers describe dealing with conflicts between sickness of a child and the organization of paid work. Underlying their descriptions are discursive perceptions of the availability of childcare, general health and ability of their children, and financial and other resources; gendered perceptions of who can provide cart; and perceptions of autonomy within social class relations. Parents' practice and discourse in dealing with sickness are constituted from, and themselves constitute, gender and class processes in daily life.
