- Abstract
The article discusses studies that measure the infectious viral particle production in cells or viral protein expression in cells after the knockdown of specific genes by RNA interference (RNAi). Genome screening methodologies provide insight into virus-host interactions and what aspects should be targeted for drug therapy. Specific studies display the applicability of such technologies when deciphering host genes that support infections from HIV, influenza virus and West Nile virus. Sixty-six ribosomal proteins required for viral growth were discovered through research conducted on a Drosophila C virus model system.
