- Title
Cyprus's Financial Crisis and the Threat to the Euro.
- Authors
Georgiou, George C.
- Abstract
The article examines the financial crisis in Cyprus, including its background, the bail-in and its economic consequences. The country's economy is categorized as small and dynamic. It has been restructured from an exporter of minerals and agricultural products from 1960 to 1974. Particular focus is also given to the role of natural gas deposits discovered in the Mediterranean in ameliorating some of the economic pain felt from the European Union (EU) bailout package.
