- Abstract
The article presents an examination into the literary output of Canadian nuns during the French colonial period. An overview of the religious culture of the period is given, noting the prevalence of several women's orders in Quebec and the strong influence of the Counter Reformation in the French Catholic community of Canada. Discussion is given pointing out and analyzing the rhetoric used by several authors concerning the legitimacy of the colonial enterprise of New France itself. Nun authors surveyed include Charlotte Barré, Geneviève Boucher, and Marie Forestier.
