- Abstract
An essay is presented on British trade union journals produced by members of the printing trades during the mid-19th century. Particular focus is given to the journals' coverage of mechanization and the introduction of women and children to the industry. According to the author, these journals expressed a range of opinions on gender, labour, and mechanization. Topics discussed include group identity, the trade union the London Society of Compositors (LSC), and campaign literature.
