- Abstract
The article discusses the gender representation in cardio-thoracic surgery and highlights the underrepresentation of women in this field compared to other medical specialties. Despite an increase in the number of female cardiothoracic surgical trainees, women still face a noticeable disparity in leadership roles, opportunities, and equal pay. The lack of representation in speaking and leader roles perpetuates a cycle where women may feel excluded or discouraged from pursuing leadership positions. The article suggests proactive measures such as encouraging women to apply for speaking slots, implementing policies for equal consideration, and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment to address this gender imbalance.
