- Title
CHAPTER 13. "... a healthier atmosphere than that of exile": The Fictionalisation of Resistance in Hilda Monte's Posthumous Novel Where Freedom Perished (1947).
- Authors
Thunecke, Jörg
- Abstract
Hilda Monte's (1914-45) posthumous novel Where Freedom Perished (1947) is the fictionalisation of her personal experience as a resistance fighter inside and outside the Third Reich, first for the ISK, and later for the OSE and the OSS. The analysis shows - by drawing on new material of the hitherto neglected author - how she adopted a special literary genre ('faction') and in ten chapters convincingly presented the various strata of resistance activities in Nazi Germany prior to World War II.
