- Authors
Kabalek, Kobi
- Abstract
The article discusses the commemoration of "The Righteous Among the Nations" at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem during the years 1945 through 1963. It examines the public debate on the concept of non-Jewish rescuers of Holocaust victims during the 1940s, the debate over the clause in the Israeli Yad Vashem Law designating the Righteous Among the Nations, and the activity of the Righteous Among the Nations in Yad Vashem during the 1950s. The author argues that while the Righteous Among the Nations facet of Yad Vashem was not seen as a critical element of the memorial until the early 1960s, the Righteous Among the Nations concept was not neglected during the memorial's first years of operation.
