- Abstract
The article discusses the topic of myocardial injury caused by adrenaline toxicity. It mentions that while there are guidelines for peri-operative anaphylaxis, there are no published guidelines for adrenaline toxicity, despite the existence of case series documenting life-threatening and fatal reactions. Adrenaline toxicity typically occurs after intravenous administration and presents with symptoms such as hypertension, tachycardia, chest pain, and myocardial ischemia. The article also provides recommendations for managing adrenaline toxicity, including close monitoring, the use of nitrates and beta-blockers, assessment of cardiac function, fluid resuscitation, and optimization of metabolic status. The majority of patients in the case series survived with supportive care.
