- Abstract
This article analyzes original works of literature created from 2009 to 2019 by Lithuanian (e) migrants for children. The newest children's literature created by Lithuanian (e)migrants after 1990 has received little in the way of reflection and research. The aim of this article is to review the current situation of children's literature by émigré writers, its genres, themes, problems, and tendencies. Chief among the latter are the quest for the meaning of being Lithuanian (Monika Vaicenavičienė, Vaiva Rykštaitė, Evelina Daciūtė, Lina Mumgaudytė); the child's and its family's values (Evelina Daciūtė, Jurga Baltrukonytė, Jolita Zykutė, Jolanta Ona Vitkutė); adolescent problems related to family instability and emigration (Unė Kaunaitė, Akvilina Cicėnaitė); and therapeutic fairy tales (Jurga Baltrukonytė). The main genres represented in the creative work of Lithuanian (e)migrant writers (exclusively women) are prose stories, fairy tales, realist tales, and novels. Poetry is an rare exception (Evelina Daciūtė). The books of some of these authors are examples of popular literature for entertainment (those of Jolita Zykutė, Jolanta Ona Vitkutė and some of the tales of Jurga Baltrukonytė).
