- Abstract
The essential oils from O. officinalis and O. sativa were extracted by steam distillation and the chemical composition and content of the essential oils were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC/MS). The results show that the chemical composition and content of the essential oils in the two plants were different, for example, furfural (O. officinalis 7.60%, O. sativa 0%); 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran (O. officinalis 10.80%, O. sativa 3.32% );4-vinyl-2-methoxy-phenol(O. officinalis 22.99%, O. sativa 7.32%). So, it is speculate that these compounds with higher level in O. officinalis, for example, furfural, 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran and 4-vinyl-2-methoxy-phenol, are possibly active components.
