- Abstract
The author reflects on the role of Chilean author José Donoso in contemporary Chilean society. Donoso's short novel "Taratuta" was published in 1990, a date that marked the return of Chile to a democracy after 17 years of a military dictatorship. The novel incorporates references to the transition of the country that occurred during that time. Donoso used the novel as a chance to explore aspects of society that had been ignored but, in his opinion, were key points in the development and culture of the country .
