Lafarge cements Orascom takeover.
- Abstract
The article reports that Lafarge has agreed to buy Egypt's Orascom for $12.9 billion. As stated, Lafarge is the biggest cement maker in the world. Investors are happy with the transaction because it will give it a strong presence in Egypt, which is seeing a growth in domestic and industrial construction. It also strengthens its presence in the Mediterranean and Middle East markets. Orascom said it will be able to concentrate on its businesses in construction, infrastructure and natural gas due to the deal.
