- Abstract
The PISA study of 2022 has led to discussions about the mathematical abilities of German students. It is noted that the mathematical abilities have significantly declined compared to reading comprehension. The Minister of Education of Brandenburg emphasizes that many students nowadays have no interest in mathematics, which may be attributed to the influence of social media. However, it is emphasized that smartphones themselves are not bad, but it depends on the way they are used. The PISA tasks also include recognizing patterns and applying general knowledge. The use of non-Euclidean geometry in the tasks is also pointed out. An example is given of how the Manhattan metric is applied in practice.
