- Title
Artemisia Gentileschi as Artist Model for Miriam in Hawthorne's "The Marble Faun."
- Authors
Mayer, David R.
- Abstract
Presents literary criticism which discusses Nathaniel Hawthorne's description of the character named Miriam in the book "The Marble Faun." It presents certain compelling arguments, which suggest that the life and work of famous Roman Painter Artemisia Gentileschi would have been the source of Hawthorne's portrayal of Miriam in the book. In the book, the life and works of the character very much resembles the life and art of Gentileschi. Like Gentileschi, Miriam also had the tormented and mysterious life, and their art presents the dark shade of their lives. The essay further presents information about the life of Gentileschi, and insists on the fact that Gentileschi is the role model for Miriam.
