- Abstract
The article focuses on the works of Merce Cunningham which helped dance scholars in their research on the history of contemporary dance companies. Cunningham has been a teacher of a modern dance class in New York. Together with John Cage in 1953, they had their work in a season of American dance. Although there are some who hated their works, there are also some who found art in their pieces. Merce Cunningham Dance Co. had started with only little resources.
