The Responsibilities and Possibilities of Elizabeth Cook-Lynn.
- Authors
DeBoer, Hannah
- Abstract
The article discusses the impact and work of Elizabeth Cook-Lynn, a Native American scholar and writer. The author expresses gratitude for Cook-Lynn's memoir, which challenges traditional notions of memoir by offering political and social commentary on Indigenous experiences and academia. Cook-Lynn's writing combines personal and larger-scale narratives, and her sharpness and wit serve as a critique of the academy. The article emphasizes the importance of not misrepresenting or pathologizing Cook-Lynn's work, and highlights her emphasis on anger as a means of defining oneself and navigating settler-colonial memory and anti-Indigeneity in academia.
