- Abstract
This article discusses the relationship between the Metropolitan Police and the British film industry from 1919 to 1956. The Metropolitan Police Press Bureau played a central role in promoting a positive image of the police, and the author, Alex Rock, highlights the forgotten public relations expert, Percy Fearnley, who facilitated collaboration between the police and the film industry. This collaboration resulted in the production of three major films: The Blue Lamp (1950), Street Corner (1953), and The Long Arm (1956). The article also explores the changing cultural landscape, including the rise of television and the British New Wave, which ultimately led to the end of this productive collaboration. Overall, this well-researched study provides valuable insights into the British film industry.
