- Title
The Impact of Cultural Diversity on Web Site Design.
- Authors
Cook, Jack; Finlayson, Mike
- Abstract
This article explains the importance of cultural diversity in web site design. A good place to start before designing a web site is considering the five cultural dimensions defined by Geert Hofstede, a respected authority in the field of global culture. These are power distance, individualism versus collectivism, masculinity versus femininity, uncertainty avoidance and long-versus short-term orientation. The relative presence or absence of these attributes in a society as indicated in a country-by-country rating chart, can guide Web designers. The article lists countries rated by Hofstede's dimensions of culture.
