- Abstract
The first part of the article presents a review of the basic terms related to the concept of marketing and promotion in libraries. The second part of the article presents the results of the research carried out in the Rijeka city library by use of a questionnaire in the period from July 11 to July 16, 2016, about user satisfaction with promotion and recognisability of the library. The research was conducted on 181 library members, which is about 1% of the total number of library users. The research results demonstrate attitudes of the Rijeka city library users towards the use of the library Web page which offers data on the library services and holdings. In addition to using the library Web page, the library users can also use other promotion tools, such as social networks and billboards available in the library premises. Despite the presence of the Rijeka city library on social networks, a significant number of the respondents declared that they do not use them to follow news about the library. The research also included the questions about the direct contact of the users with the library staff, and the respondents pointed out the library staff's kindness and professionalism. The conclusion of the research is that almost all research participants consider the Rijeka city library fully or partially recognizable in the town of Rijeka and on the Internet. The research results could be included in the development of a future marketing plan of the library.
