- Abstract
This document is a letter published in the journal "Lasers in Medical Science" discussing the safety and efficacy of subthreshold micropulse laser (SML) for diabetic macular edema (DMO). The study found that SML was as effective as conventional standard laser (SL) for DMO with central retinal thickness (CRT) less than 400 μm in maintaining visual acuity (VA) at 2 years. However, for more severe cases of DMO, the rate of rescue anti-VEGF treatment was high, suggesting that SML alone may not be sufficient. The authors recommend considering SML treatment for DMO with CRT less than 400 μm, but not as a monotherapy for more severe cases.
