- Title
Can triniobium tin shrink accelerators?
- Authors
Hand, Eric
- Abstract
The article discusses the potential for superconducting materials such as triniobium tin to create cavities within particle accelerators that accelerate particles to higher energies over shorter distances. Condensed-matter theorist at Cornell University James Sethna is quoted. Also discussed is how ultracold operating temperatures and superconductor vortices create barriers to the magnetic field lines, allowing the cavities to operate at higher gradients.
