Fusion verdict: misconduct.
- Authors
Reich, Eugenie Samuel
- Abstract
The article reports that nuclear engineer Rusi Taleyarkhan was found guilty of research misconduct as reported by a committee of scientists at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, chaired by biochemist Mark Hermodson in connection to his experiments on bubble fusion. Particularly, it notes that Taleyarkhan was guilty of two misconducts in which one is for citing a paper by junior researchers accusing that their work is a replication of his own findings and the other one is for adding a name of a student who had not contributed to the paper as an author. Furthermore, the report emphasizes that a confirmative information should be brought honestly because reproducibility of outcomes by independent experimenters is a crucial factor of the scientific method.
